Gavin Bishop is an author for children books. Here is more information about his background and life.
Gavin Bishop was born in Invercargill, New Zealand. His tribes are Ngati Mahuta (Tainui), Ngati Pukeko and Ngati Awa. He lived in Invercargill for 3 years, then moved to Kingston for another 5 years. The school he was first enrolled was Kingston school at the age of 4 and a half. With only 11 pupils it was a small school. On some days, he would get a ride from a horse with two other kids.
In his school days: In the 1950’s, his family had no electricity, no car, and no telephone. All he had was a small radio that couldn’t get much coverage. In 1955, he moved back to Invercargill and joined the public library to discover more about the free library system. He continued primary at Clifton School and went to high school in Invercargill. At the age of 18 he went to Canterbury University and studied the fine arts.
His living now: He was an art teacher for 30 years. For 20 years he taught at Linwood High School in Christchurch and for 10 he taught at Christ’s High. Now he is a fulltime book writer. You might have read some of his books like the ‘Kiwi Moon’, ‘Friends, The Snake and The Lizard’ and ‘Bruiser’. He has authored and illustrated over 60 books right now. He lives with his wife Vivien, his three daughters, Cressida, Charlotte and Alexandra. He also has 2 grandchildren, Zoe and George.
On Thursday, I'm so excited to see this fine artist.
