Taonga Time With Mr Harris

Ever since when I was a year 6, I wanted to have Taonga time. Taonga time is when the intermediate block has a rotation and goes to different classes. But when I heard I was in a class that I didn’t want to be in I took it all back. In Taonga time, I heard I was in Room 19 with Mr Harris. I didn’t know what was in store for us, but it was pretty interesting, because we learnt about the climate. The climate is about our weather. Our weather comes from the atmosphere.

In our first time with Mr Harris, we learnt about a word called ‘Precipitation’. Precipitation is when the weather is formed. It starts from the sea and the sun dries the water which makes it water vapour. The water vapour the forms clouds. Those clouds then let out rain which goes into rivers and then lead into the sea. That is Precipitation.

I couldn’t wait for Taonga Time with Mr Harris. The first time was way cool so I wanted to go again every day. That week we had to pick a word to research about a word out of Precipitation, Tropical, Climate, Tropical Climate, and many more. I decided to pick tropical because I like the word tropical because it goes with anything. Tropical fruit, tropical island, tropical and where. Tropical is my word.

The last week we went there, Mr Harris set us a task to make a presentation using all the words we have learnt about the atmosphere. We could get into groups of 3, 2 or we could work by yourself.  I decided to work with my buddy Tokorima. We have a great plan of how to do our presentation.

At the start of the year, I thought Taonga time would be dumb but now I really like it. So it’s just like people say, ‘Don’t Judge A Book On It’s Cover’ so don’t judge a class by it’s teacher.

  2. Hello Gabriel,
Nice work! I was in rm 21, your class. It was fun, we had to make movies. Your writing was so good I can't think of anything to help you improve it. My favourite part in your writing was the last paragraph. Don't judge a class by it's teacher. Anyway, keep up the great work.
