Extension Halloween

On the 31st of October every year, all the kids celebrate Halloween. To me when I was little, Halloween was my favorite thing apart from my Birthday. Dressing up in the costume they imagine, they have fun knocking on doors and getting LOLLIES. Whats better than getting lollies for free? Thats how we celebrate Halloween, but most importantly..... Have fun when you celebrate Halloween.

Halloween was originated from the Celtics in the ancient days.  They celebrated it with a bonfire to the dead. The reason why they done this was because the daytime will be shorter and the nights will be longer. They called this Samhain (sel-wyn), which was a harvest festival. The harvest festival was when the people could gather up their crops. The harvest time was very scary because they wouldn’t know if the food would last them through the winter. If it didn’t, they might die from hunger. On that very day, the veil between the dead and the spirits could be crossed. Humans could pass through the veil but if they did, they could be stuck in there, FOREVER! The people would stay inside their houses just to be safe.

How did they get the name Halloween?
It all started from Lemuria on a Roman calendar which was May 13th. The Romans would pour milk onto the Graves of the dead so that the spirits wouldn’t rise and harm anyone. Sometimes they would give some cakes and put them on their graves. All Saints or Hallows day started on November the 1st. Samhain died on October the 31st. So to celebrate this, the name got changed to All Hallows Evening. Which then got shortened to All Hallows Even and then to Halloween.

All Souls Day
After All Saints Day, there was a new event that happened which was All Souls Day. This is when the souls that are stuck between Heaven and Hell in this place called Permeable. The kids would ask the churches for souls cakes in return for some prays.
