Year 8 Reflection

This year at Point England School is my final year at this wonderful school. The things that I really love about this school are the great teachers and people in the community. Also, my friends have been a huge influence on me. They have helped me carry on when times were hard.

For 7 years I have been at this school. Through out the time I have developed skills and had been given huge opportunities. We have gone to the Museum on trips, we have gone to MOTAT and also, we went to the Zoo. I will always remember these moments at P.E.S.  This Year we had the chance to go to Waitangi and Te Tii Marae.

Since I was year 6 we had been working on these devices called net-books. We learn digitally and the net-books are associated with The Manaiakalani Education Trust. We had been given a brand new net-book to learn and work on. It has been easier because we have been learning on Google Drive and we have posted our writing on our blog.

Sports for me at this school has been a huge success. Playing rugby, cricket, basketball and more sports I have participated in was MEAN! We had great coaches that have taught us all the skills we know today.

To be perfectly honest, I wouldn't like to leave this school. I don't want to leave the teachers and my friends. It will be hard on the last day but I will fight the emotion. This is going to be my last blog post for 2013. So to everyone that has taughtt me and been my friend, all I can say is Thank You ALL!!

Nelson Mandela's Death

On Thursday the 5th of December, a tragic event shocked the world. Nelson Mandela had died. Nelson Rolihlahal Mandela had died in hospital. In his earlier years, he was a amateur boxer. He started fighting at the age of 14. He had a tough childhood in South Africa but grew up to be the man.

When he grew up, he helped fight for equal rights. As he done that, he got imprisoned because he was black. For 27 long years he was imprisoned. Once he got out, he was named the new President of South Africa. He was named because he was equal and fair.

I wish he was still alive. He was a good man. I think they made the right decision making him president. From his tough life to a great future in Heaven. Nelson Mandela, born on July 18 and died December 5th.

How Has My Netbook Helped Me?

How has my netbook helped me? Well it has helped me in many ways. It has helped me by learning digitally. By now I have learnt more than my mum at working online. It has also helped me because if I want to search something on the internet, it will come up straight away.

In google drive, it has also helped me because you can learn with other people from around the cluster. The schools like Glen Innes, Tamaki and Panmure Bridge have interacted with us. They have help us develop our skills in the digital world.

At home, the net-books have tout me how to play the guitar. I looked it up on YouTube and now I am pretty good. I researched about Te Tiriti O Waitangi. Did you know that 13 women signed the treaty? I found that out by researching. Click on this link to go to the movie that we created at Waitangi.

Even though the netbooks are cool, they also distract us. They tempt me to play games and I do play games but I try my hardest to not play them. I just can’t help it. Most of the time I have completed my tasks but again I am distracted. I will never go back to pen and paper.

Yr 8 Camp

"YES!" I cheered to myself. It was Tuesday morning and we were off to my hometown, Rotorua. I was so excited to go and I couldn't wait. We quickly loaded the bus and we were on our way.

"When the night, has come!" The boys were loaded on the bus. We started singing Stand By Me, but as time rolled on, we got over singing. We had been driving for about 2 hours we stopped at a lakeside. Everyone was keen to have a swim but the teachers said no. So we just skimmed the rocks instead. After a half an hour we got back on the bus. We drove another 1 hour, by this time is was getting a headache. We stopped and walked over a dam.

"Yes, boys we are in Rotorua." I said to the bus. After 5 hours or bus riding, we finally hit Rotorua. We drove straight to the camp grounds. Unloaded the buses and went to Mt Ngonotaha. We went on an hour walk through the bushes. It was quite an experience for some, but not for me because I had already been there. I was still alright. After the walk we went to the camp grounds for free time. It was so cool on the first day, but that was it. It was just dinner then bed.

On day two, I had a great start to the morning with a nice breakfast. We then went to the crescent creek to have a swim. The thing that surprised me about this creek was that the water was fresh and warm like a bath. It was so nice to everyone. We then went to the Argodome to watch the sheep shaving and all the wooly sheep. It was so amazing but at the same time it was uncomfortable because there were stones in my undies from the creek but the show was still cool. We went home after that then we practiced our item. Then had dinner and the watched Pitch Perfect. It was cool.

Day three was another good start to the day. We went for a walk around the blue lake. Despite the rain and the muddy footpath it was still a good walk. After the walk we went and had a swim in the blu lake. Jumping off the pontoon into the icy cold water. We then went back to the camp site to get have a rest. We then went to my favorite place in Rotorua, the Aquatics Centre. Bombing is allowed thats why I love it. After that we just went home, had dinner and went to sleep.

The final day, day four was exciting for me. It was time to hit the luge. The luge was exhilarating. The speed of it was amazing. After the ride we came back up on the chairlift. Me and Roman were shaking it up and down. When we got back up, I went to the jelly belly factory. My favorite jelly bean was the melon one. After that we went home.

The highlight of the trip for me was definitely the luge ride. I hope that when I go down in the Christmas Holidays I can go back.

Maths Strategy Week 6 Term 4 4

4. Julia is an artist. She has been painting a huge mural for the town centre. For the main colour she used a 20 litre pail of white mixed with a 10 litre pail of blue. Unfortunately she ran out of paint before she finished the mural. She thinks that she will only need 6 more litres in total to finish. How much blue and white paint does she need to mix up to get the 6 litres of paint she needs that is exactly the same colour she has been using?

For every 20 litres of white paint, she needs 10 litres of Blue Paint. 20:10

She needs 6 more litres of white paint so then we need 3 litres of blue. 6:3

My Maths Strategy Week 5

12. Tama is making costumes for the production. Each of the costumes he makes uses  .39m2 of material. How many can he make with 33m2

I needed to know what the answer to this question was. The first thing I done was times .39x10 which equals 3.9. I then doubled that which would equal 7.8 and that will make 20. Again I doubled it which made 15.6 (40 costumes). Doubled it again and I made 31.2 (80 costumes) That meant there was 1.8 left. Out of that I could make 4 with .24 left over. So that makes 84 costumes.

My Strategy Week 6 Term 4 3

3. Tiaki is fixing part of his fence. The pickets he needs are .68m long each. How many metres of timber does he need to cut up 45 pickets?

It was the easiest out of them. First I done .68x10 to make it to 6.8. I times that by 4 and made 27.2 which equaled 40 pickets.

.68x10=6.8

6.8x4=

6x4=24

8x4=3.2 27.2=40

3.4=5 27.2+3.4=30.6

If the timber comes in 5m lengths only what is the minimum amount of lengths he needs to have enough for 45 pickets?

He will need 7 with 4.4m left on 1.

The timber is $3.55/m. How much will he have spent? He will have spent 24.85.

.05x7=.35 .5x7=3.85

3x7=21+3.85=24.85.

Maths Strategy Week 6 Term 4 2

2. Sione uploaded a presentation to his blog but it was too big. In the HTML code he saw that the size was 920 pixels wide by 648 pixels high. He thinks if he reduces it to ¾ of the size it is, it should fit. What dimensions does he need to change in the HTML code?

920/4=230

648/4=162

162x3=488 100x3=300 60x3=180 2x4=8 300+180+8=488

230x3=690 690 wide, 488 tall.

This is question 2 of my week 6 strategy. I knew I had to reduce the screen so I done this. Found a quarter of each number. 920/4=230, and 448/4=162. So I needed to x them each by three to find my answer. 162x3=488. 230x3=690. So the tv is 690 pixels wide and 648 high.

Maths Stratergy Week 6 Term 4

1. The world record for throwing a cellphone in 2012 was 102.68 metres. James attempted to beat the record but only managed to throw 97.89m. How much was he short by? 97.89+___=102.68

97.89+2.11=100

100+2.68=102.68

2.11+2.68=4.79

So the equation was 97.89+___=102.68? The first thing I done was to round 97.89 to the nearest 100. So I added 2.11 to make it to 100. I needed to add another 2.68 which equals 102.68. So 2.11+2.68=4.79

My Maths Strategy Week 5 3

10. The school has been donated packets of felt pens to share out evenly between the 22 classes. How many feltpen packets does each class get if they got given 308 packets?  308/22=?
220/22=10
88/22=4

My Maths Statergy Week 5 2

8. In the hop, skip and jump (Triple Jump) the record for  men is 18.29m whereas the record for women is 15.5m. How much longer is the men’s record than the women’s.
15.5+.5=16
16+.29=16.29
16.29+2.=18.29

2.79

The first thing that I done was was to add .5 to 15.5 to make 16. Then I added .79 to make the answer up to 16.29. I then added another 2 to make 18.29. So I added all of those to make 2.79.

Extension Halloween

On the 31st of October every year, all the kids celebrate Halloween. To me when I was little, Halloween was my favorite thing apart from my Birthday. Dressing up in the costume they imagine, they have fun knocking on doors and getting LOLLIES. Whats better than getting lollies for free? Thats how we celebrate Halloween, but most importantly..... Have fun when you celebrate Halloween.

Halloween was originated from the Celtics in the ancient days.  They celebrated it with a bonfire to the dead. The reason why they done this was because the daytime will be shorter and the nights will be longer. They called this Samhain (sel-wyn), which was a harvest festival. The harvest festival was when the people could gather up their crops. The harvest time was very scary because they wouldn’t know if the food would last them through the winter. If it didn’t, they might die from hunger. On that very day, the veil between the dead and the spirits could be crossed. Humans could pass through the veil but if they did, they could be stuck in there, FOREVER! The people would stay inside their houses just to be safe.

How did they get the name Halloween?
It all started from Lemuria on a Roman calendar which was May 13th. The Romans would pour milk onto the Graves of the dead so that the spirits wouldn’t rise and harm anyone. Sometimes they would give some cakes and put them on their graves. All Saints or Hallows day started on November the 1st. Samhain died on October the 31st. So to celebrate this, the name got changed to All Hallows Evening. Which then got shortened to All Hallows Even and then to Halloween.

All Souls Day
After All Saints Day, there was a new event that happened which was All Souls Day. This is when the souls that are stuck between Heaven and Hell in this place called Permeable. The kids would ask the churches for souls cakes in return for some prays.

What In The World Is Going On?

In 2009 it was Teach Me How To Jerk, 2010 it was The Dougie, 2011 was Party Rock Anthem, 2012 was The Harlem Shake and now, What Does The Fox Say? The new trend this year is What Does The Fox Say? The song has only been out for 1 month and it already has over 1,800,000 views. The song consists on the sounds of animals. They start with a dog then build up to a fox. The sounds that they make are a bit like this Wa-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa. It is quite catchy. This was Reporter Gabriel and Reporter Logan out.

Maths Mural

Mahia is an artist. She has been commissioned to paint a mural on wall of a company's warehouse. The company wants the mural to be abstract (not representational) and they want it to show the colours of their company logo. They have specified it needs to have 1/3 blue,  1/6 red, 1/12 yellow, 1/12 white 1/12 purple and 1/4  green. They want it to have 2 lines of symmetry (reflection)  and  a rotating and translating pattern somewhere.

Gabriel D.L.O Reflection

In week 8 of term 3, we had been given the task to create a DLO about an important event in history. My mate Dillon and I partnered  up to create a great DLO. We decided to concentrate on ‘Te Tiriti o Waitangi’ or in English ‘The Treaty of Waitangi’. What's better than 2 Maoris working on a Maori event?

We did our research and found some great information. My favorite information I found was that 500 Maori people signed the treaty including 13 women. That was the information that I found interesting. The purpose of our movie was to inform our audience about the Treaty of Waitangi. I don’t think that we achieved it as well as we could have because we only had a few facts in our movie.

What should I improve on?
I should really improve on using my time wisely. I really need to focus on what I am meant to do and not talk to friends.  I need to concentrate, do my work so I don't get in trouble and be on the right task. I have to pick the right people who I can work well with.

Video: From my point of view, our rating out of 10 would be about a 6 because our animations were great but the voice-over didn’t suit it. The background beat was too loud so we couldn’t hear our voice over very clearly. I needed to draw what the voiceover says so that it matched. The animations were decent though. Because of the lack of time, our movie wasn’t as good as we expected it to be. I didn’t include enough information that it needed.

What did I do well?
I completed all of my work and I worked well with my mate Dillon. We completed our task and we did a great job overall. The animated images were detailed, had Maori designs and were interesting. We had some facts about the Treaty in it. To view our complete task go to vimeo.

Gavin Bishop is an author for children books. Here is more information about his background and life.

Gavin Bishop was born in Invercargill, New Zealand. His tribes are Ngati Mahuta (Tainui), Ngati Pukeko and Ngati Awa. He lived in Invercargill for 3 years, then moved to Kingston for another 5 years. The school he was first enrolled was Kingston school at the age of 4 and a half. With only 11 pupils it was a small school. On some days, he would get a ride from a horse with two other kids.

Should Pitbulls Be Banned In NZ?

Today for literacy, our teacher Miss Lagitupu has given us a task to write about.

Should Pitbulls Be Banned In NZ? That was my topic question so now I’m giving my opinion. I don’t think pitbulls should not be banned in New Zealand because if someone is going to rob your house, the pitbull is the only vicious dog you can have to chase him. Also, the dog is a friend to everyone.

A reason why pitbulls should be banned is because if you annoy them they can get very vicious and really hurt someone. Over the year of 2012, the hospitals have recorded about 800,000 bites from pitbulls. So that goes to show, pitbulls can be very dangerous.

On my finally opinion for Should Pitbulls Be Banned In NZ, I don’t agree to that. I think that even though they are dangerous in many ways, they can be trained to not hurt and to be playful. So my final opinion is, Pitbulls Should Not Be Banned In NZ.

Literacy Prospective Sudent

This is our project we needed to write for literacy.

Over the vertical rocky faces, Jackie Chan, a martial arts student, traveled long and far on a treacherous journey to the best Dojo in China. Through the blistering desert, over the lofty peaks, he was determined to meet Sensei Nelisi to teach him about Kung Fu. “Yes!” He cheered to myself. It was a long and hard journey, but finally he got there.

BANG! BANG! BANG! Jackie bangs loudly on Sensei Nelisi’s hefty door. “Clang!” Chains smash on the ground. Sensei Nelisi walks out. He then points away. Feeling deflated, he drops his head in embarrassment. Not giving up he meditates through the whole night and day. “HMMMM!” Those are sounds he makes throughout the night.

“CLANG!” The chains break off again. Sensei comes out, points away then goes back inside. Feeling deflated, Jackie walks back down the mountain with shame. WIth that last bit of drive, he runs back then smashes down the huge hefty door.

“BOOM!”  The stare between Sensei Lagitupu and Jackie Chan is icy cold. The determination in Jackie Chan’s heart is massive. Even the Sensei couldn’t believe he had done that. Angry, Sensei Nelisi points away again. Finally he looked at what the Sensei had been pointing at. It was a sign. Please use side entrance. “Hehe” he says to himself.

Hansel and Gretel Literacy Twist.

In literacy this week, I had to choose fairytale to twist up. With the help of my friend Darius this is what we have produced.

Once upon a time there were two brothers. They were alike in every way. They were brought up the same way, they were the same height, the same colored hair and skin, but their characteristics were completely contrary.

The brothers lived by themselves in a cottage deep in the woods.  Darius, he always had an evil glint in his eye and was always getting up to mischief. He had a short temper ready to blow his fuse, the minute anybody had a go at him. Gabriel on the other hand, he was a calm boy and he was never naughty. These two boys were always fighting. One day those two boys got very serious........

“SMASH!” The two boys were in the middle of a fight. Windows were smashing, chairs were getting tossed, and the boys were getting bruised. Gabriel didn’t want to fight anymore, so he sprinted it into the forest. A few seconds later, his brother lashed out and ran after him. “I will get you Gabriel” Darius yelled! After a long run Gabriel comes to a small candy cottage. With Darius on his tail, he ran inside.

They found themselves tumbling and making rackets inside the cottage. “Snif that smells like chocolate” Darius wondered. Not noticing an old lady in the corner she had a wicked smile on her face “Hello little children” her voice croaked as, the air suddenly turned as cold as the dark night. “What would you children like?” as her icy cold stare catches their eye’s. “Eat all you can eat.” A few hours later after they ate all they could, the witch threw Gabriel into a hot furnace. Building up with fury, Darius kills the witch then grabbed Gabriel out of the furnace.

“Gabriel, please don’t go...........” Darius said. He grabbed his brother then started to fill up with emotion. Tears had dropped from Darius’s eye’s then dripped onto Gabriel. With a flash of light, Gabriel springs up. “Gabriel!” Darius smiled.  They lived happily ever after.

Writing Task Week 8

Today in literacy with Mrs Lagitupu, we had to find a question about our school topic which was Point England School Investigates. I was in a group with my friend Raenan, and our question we chose was, What Are Carbohydrates and Why Do We Need It? Carbohydrates is energy from bread, rice and pasta.  We need Carbohydrates to give us energy and to get us through the day. Those are what Carbohydrates are and why we need them.

Week 5 SSW

CRASH!!!! As the thunder crashes in the sky, the rain splashes on my umbrella. Fighting to keep it up I push it against the wind. My umbrella snapped without warning. To make it worse, my friend drives past into a puddles which soaks me. “Haha shame” he yells out to me.

Now this is the paragraph I have made better:

CRASH!!!! As the thunder crashes in the sky, the torrential downfall splashes on my umbrella. Fighting to keep it up I push it against the brick like force. BANG! My umbrella snapped without warning. To add insult to injury, my friend drives past into a puddles which soaks me. “Haha shame” he yells out to me. In pitter and disper, I walk home cold and soaked.

SSW Week 4

In the misty distance over the rock landscape, I gaze far and wide for my dog. Statues and mist is all I see over the highrise, so its quite hard. A quick glance is all I need to find that massive rottweiler. “There!” I think to myself. Seeing him out of the corner of my eye, I chase after him towards the statues, but couldn't succeed. Uncatchable I stop in the middle of a circle.  Standing in this circle, I feel shivers down my spine. Nerves twitching. This was definitely the the scariest and weirdest feeling I’ve ever had.

A Suprise Visit From Will.I.Am

"OMG!!!" When I found out Will.I.Am was going to be at our school, I went CRAZY!!! I was pumped one day before he was coming. Unfortunately I was sick on that day so I had to stay home. The day he came I was at home, lying in bed. I was gutted, but life is life.

"Mum look, we are on the news" I shouted to my mum. It was 6.00pm. I was watching 3 news then I called my mum to see my school on the news. He produced a very inspirational speech about his childhood and how he never gave up going for gold. To top it off, he gave Manaiakalani Education Trust $100,000!! I still couldn't believe it.

"Mum listen to this". My mum and I were watching Will.I.Am producing his inspirational speech. He was talking about what he did in his life. He said to us "without my friends and family, I would be here". "They have been a huge help to me." One of his dreams were to be apart of music. Music was his life, but the big thing for him to do in life was to take care of his mum. His mum was a big part of his life and he was grateful for that.

I think Will.I.Am has been a huge inspiration to all of the students. He has been generous and we will not forget that. We will not forget the speech that he had done. When you dream big we live big just like Will.I.Am. I wouldn't mind him coming back because I wasn't there to see him. So I want him to come back if he can.

My Holiday In Nelson

Yeah!! I cheer. My Rugby league club the Otahuhu Leopards travelled to Nelson for a holiday. We went to Nelson for a well earned ‘vacation’. We stayed at the Tahunanui Holiday Park. There was a mini golf course and a room full of games. IT WAS SO COOL.

It all started at the airport when we all got together. We were waiting on standby for 30 minutes so we used that time to go explore. I brought me a feed from McDonalds. It was a Big Mac combo.  I went back to my coach then we boarded the plane.

“Get ready strap your seat belts in and get ready” the flight attendant said through the speaker. We were about to take off to Nelson. I was all the way at the back sitting with my coach, while all the other boys were spread out. We were on a one way flight to Nelson. All we needed to do was kick back and enjoy the view.

“WOW!!!” I gaze in amazement. We all saw the view of the mountains as we were landing. We walk off the plane, then go straight to rent a car.  We rented a minivan to travel around. It is way cheaper than travelling in a taxi. So we decided that.

“OMG” I think to myself. The sight of the park was amazing. We travelled straight to the camp grounds. Tahunanui Holiday Park.  My team mates and I sprinted out of the van then went to the mini golf park. There was a mini golf course, go karts, a room full of computers and games like pool, arcade games and chess. We had a great day. I still couldn’t believe the sight of this holiday park.

“CRUNCH!” I bite into a steak and onion roll made by the number 1 fish and chip shop in New Zealand. The Sands Tahunanui Fish and Chips Shop it was called. Roy Gray and Bruce Maxfield own this shop. They cook the YUMMIEST chips in the world. My coach and team go there to the to get a great feed.

I think this Holiday ranks in the top 3 for the best holidays I’ve ever had. Great accommodation, great teammates, and great fish and chips. Put those three together, then you get a mean holiday.

Term 1 Reflection

“Already?” I thought to myself. Term 1 was nearly finished. We had 11 weeks but it finished so fast. I barely had time to do anything I wanted to do. But when you have fun time flies. I can’t wait for next term.

The cricket tournament was one of the biggest highlight of the term. Myself and my friends went to Colin Maiden Park to play against other teams from the Tamaki cluster. We played five games against Tamaki Primary, Sylvia Park, Panmure bridge and G.I Primary. With confidence we came out victorious. That was a big highlight of the Term.

One thing i’ve liked this term was meeting and bonding with my friends. Getting to know everyone in my new class of 2013. I have met new friends like Tevita, Khi Khi, Zyrin and all my other friends. That was one of the highlights of the term.

I think when it comes to class work I haven’t been focusing hard on my work. Too much talking and mucking around in class. Working with a group I was more focused than I was independently. I was good at cooperating with everyone as well. I just need to get my work done and not muck around.

I am looking forward to next term so I can focus on work. I am going to try and do my work. Not getting distracted from my mates. My main goal is to get my work done.

Spooky House

‘CRASH, BOOM!’ Thunder rumbled around the spooky house. Raenan and Gabriel walk up to the abandoned house. Overcome by fear, they resist to enter the house. “Rock, scissors paper shoot”. The boys play rock scissors paper to see who enters first. Raenan loses and has to walk in first.

“I can’t do it” said Raenan. “Don’t be a wimp” Gabriel replied. “Ok” Raenan answered. As he reaches for the doorknob, he feels something shoot up his arm. “What happened?” asked Gabriel. “It felt like a million bee stings” said Raenan. Angry, Gabriel kicks the door down.

With heavy hearts, they walk down the hallway. With dust in their eyes, the boys can just see spiders, cobwebs and insects. They come to a door. They both stop, and Raenan hesitates. Gabriel doesn’t and just kicks the door down again. Theres nothing in the room except for 1 thing. A chest.

“Well, what should we do?” asked Raenan. “We open it” replied Gabriel with excitement. “BANG!” Raenan stomps the ground angrily. “I’m sick of you just doing anything you want.” “You don’t even know whats in there. Maybe something could just jump out at you?” “But it won’t” said Gabriel.  “I’m out of here.” Raenan stormed out. Gabriel slowly opens the chest then.... “AHHHHHHHHH!!!!!”

Gabriel screamed and ran back to Raenan. “I’m sorry” said Gabriel “Lets go into another room”. “Ok” Raenan replied. “Why did you scream?” “I saw something” Gabriel answered. “I saw a skull.” “Holy mackerel” Raenan said. “Yeah I think we should go”.

BANG! BANG! BANG! Raenan and Gabriel sprint down the hallway. “Ahhhhhh” they hear a faint sound. They go to check it out. They see a body in a bed. They walk closer and closer. Suddenly, “RAHHH!!” Screamed Raenan’s dad. Gabriel and Raenan’s dad laughs. “Why are you guys laughing. You scared the bezebers (B-G-Bers) out of me.” said Raenan. They all walk out of the house together as a family.

Start Here: “Touchdown!” said Kendrix. In a dull room at 138 Leybourne Circle, a boy named Kendrix and his brother James were playing Madden NFL ‘09. Kendrix was a humble boy who does anything and James was a boy that always wanted to win. “I hate this game lets put in Tekken 5” said James. “Ok” replied Kendrix. They were about to put in Tekken but then they couldn’t find it. “This is weird Kendrix” said James. “Yesterday our Rugby ball went now Tekken 5?” “Something's seriously wrong”. “Lets go ask Waata”

“BANG BANG BANG!” “WAATA, WAATA!” James screamed as he was knocking on the door. From all the things disappearing, James and Kendrix decided to got to their mates house to see if their stuff is gone. “What is it bro?” said Waata. “WAATA WAATA WAATA.........” screamed James. “I think I should handle this one James, don’t you think?” said Kendrix. “Have any of your things been disappearing?” asked Kendrix. “Yes” replied Waata. “My MW3, COD Black Ops 2 and all heaps of my games”. “That’s like us” said James. We have got to get to the bottom of this. “Lets see if Starford has anything to say.”

“Star, Star” the two boys scream. “What’s up?” he replies. “Has anything been disappearing here?” “Yeah” he replies. “Have.......” Kendrix is stopped by Star. “Has anything of yours been disappearing?” “Yeah, we were just about to ask” Kendrix replies. “Ohh well. See you later” Star said.

“We haven’t asked Mum” said James. The two boys ran to their mother hoping that she would know where their stuff is. “Mum have you seen our....” James stopped talking. He and Kendrix saw all his stuff near his mum. “Mum, how could you?” asked James angrily. “It was all a prank?” said Kendrix. “Yes” his mum replied. “All the mums in the community planned this at school.” “I’ve got to say, that was pretty good” Kendrix said. “HOW COULD YOU!” James screamed. “I’m going” he storms away. At the end of the day everyone was happy except for James. But he was alright after a while. That concludes our story.

Mini Trathglon

“YES!” I cheered to myself. “Triathlon”. On Wednesday the 3rd of April, we had a session to learn about the Triathlon Competition.  Swim, bike then run. I really enjoy this because it tests my fitness.

“Alright room 20 boys come up to the slide please” said Adrien. We had our session class by class. Girls before boys. It was finally our turn to do the triathlon. We didn’t really swim, we had to slide on the waterslide. The only boys that could slide on the waterslide was me, and two of my friends, Tevita and Melvin. We had to slide 4 times while the rest of the boys did starjumps.

“Lets go boys” I shouted to Tevita and Melvin. We had first dibs on which bikes to choose. I chose the closest bike to the slide, so I could quickly get going. I was off in an instant. I was in first place then everyone started to pass me because of my damp clothes.

“Time for your run” Adrien shouted. It was the last thing we had to do to complete the triathlon. Sprinting as fast as I could, (i couldn’t go fast because I was so tired and damp) I finished the triathlon tired to the max. “Well done,” Adrien said as he Congratulated me. “You have done well”.

I really enjoyed this because it can really push me and test my skills. I can’t wait until we do this again.

Auckland's Earthquakes.

On the 17th of March 2013, Auckland experienced it's first earthquake since 2007. The tremors came from the Island next to Rangitoto, Motutapu. The first one was a 3.1 magnitude at 4.01pm and the second one was a 3.9 magnitude earthquake at 4.05pm. The 3.1 magnitude was 6kms deep and the 3.9 magnitude was 5kms deep. I wasn't there to experience it but my friends were. We are going to be hearing from them both. My first mate said " I was asleep when it hit so I didn't feel. it." My second mate said "I felt it from Manukau." "I was reading one of my comics when the house started to shake." "It was so cool." I hope next time one hits I can be there to experience it.

Gabriel Narrative Stormy Day

Whipping and lashing at me as I stood at the at the shoreline, the wild wild waves were like being slapped by a wet towel. Icy cold, I continued walking to my mother. On this stormy day at the beach, Raenan and I were trying to get to my mother in the carpark before the day got even worse. The sting from the cold,  felt like knives slicing me everywhere. As I walked even further, I felt like I was floating because I couldn’t feel my legs. This was turning into the biggest disaster I’ve ever been in.

“Gabriel, Gabriel”. I could hear faint screaming from near the water. Was that Raenan yelling out my name? I ran towards the sea. I noticed Raenan, struggling waist deep in water. He was struggling as the waves crashed over him. He was getting swept out to sea. I grabbed him then pushed him onto the shoreline. He was saved but I was the unlucky one. I fainted from the coldness. Going with the current out to sea I was being swept out. Trying to swim I failed from my numb body. The only thing I could do was wait.

“............... Please help me my lord Amen”. I was praying for my survival. I have been floating for like 20 minutes but it felt like forever!  I thought hope was all gone when I heard a sound. “BEEP,BEEP.” I could hear sirens in the distance. I was relieved, but there was one problem, I couldn’t swim. My body was still numb from staying in the water too long. Screaming and yelling, I try to get their attention. It worked but they didn’t know how to get me up. The men lowered a fishing net, passed me and scooped me up into the boat. Raenan and my mum were there as well. It was awesome to be saved but It was better to see my mum and Raenan.

My Visual Mihi

Kia Ora. My name is Gabriel and I am Year 8 at Point England. I have created a visual mihi in extension. I love my school because it has got great teachers, great principals and great students. Lucky for me I am prefect this year which means I have to step up into that position. I like heaps of things in the world especially sports. Name a sport, I can play it. I might not be good at it but I will give it a try. My favorite sport is NRL. National Rugby League. Vodafone Warriors is my team. I dream to play for them in the future. Also the New Zealand Kiwis. Drawing is another part to my life. I don’t really like painting but I love sketching, computer drawings and all that. A huge part in my life is the Bible. I am a believer in God. One day spreading the word of the lord. One more thing is my land. New Zealand and Tangata Te Whenua. Maori my culture. Te Arawa my Tribe and my Waka. But the most important thing is myself. I treasure myself in many ways. So I’m so grateful I here. That is my life.

Waitangi Day

BEEP! BEEP! Goes the car horns. Everyone, including us, were so eager to get to the Waitangi day party. Partying, drinks food, Rasta, and Singers. What more can you expect on Waitangi day. The only thing bad was the blazing sun beaming down on us. Finally we made it there, to Bastion Point where the concert was.

"Whoa!" I said to my brother. "It's chaos down there." Thousands of people filled up the grass dancing to Awa from Nesian Mystik. The final act I watched was Aradna. She sung her famous singles Wake Up and Lorena Bobbitt. After her act we went home. The day was awesome.

Every year that’s on, so I can’t wait for next year.
